Step back in time and discover what daily life was really like in 18th-century "British America" (the name used by colonists for the new world). M. Allyson Szabo will explore the challenges and joys of colonial cooking, touching on open-hearth cooking and brick ovens, as well as the tools, techniques, and ingredients that shaped early Colonial meals.

Learn how colonists adapted their Old World recipes with New World ingredients like corn, pumpkins, beans, and maple sugar. Discover what was on the menu for a typical day, how food preservation worked without refrigeration, the role of women in the kitchen, and the surprising differences (and similarities) between wealthy and humble households.

Allyson will bring along a selection of historical cookbooks, and share practical insights you can try at home. She'll also bring along food to share with participants, so that you can taste a little bit of history! This program brings colonial history to life through the universal language of food. Perfect for history buffs, food lovers, and anyone curious about how our culinary traditions began.

Join us for a flavorful journey into America’s colonial past!

Allyson's books will be available for purchase and signing.
